Unwinding U.S. Exceptionalism & EM: Be Careful What You Wish For
April 30, 2025 – 11:00 (EST)
After a decade of weakening EM currencies and equity market underperformance, the erosion of the U.S. “exceptionalism” narrative is leading a rotation out of U.S. assets and potentially giving emerging markets what they’ve long been aching for: a weak U.S. dollar. Unfortunately, the way the latter is occurring, via a slowdown in U.S. growth and restructuring of global trade, is problematic for many EMs.
Key issues addressed:
- Is the unwinding of the U.S. “exceptionalism” narrative good or bad for EM?
- How will EMs fare in a changing global trade landscape?
- Is there any shelter in EM assets?
