The Consumer “Affordability Crisis” Will Persist – December 1, 2025

There is an affordability problem caused by the relentless rise in U.S. and developed market (DM) consumer price levels. The latter continues to climb at a more rapid pace than the pre-2020 trend.

Good economic growth is probable in 2026 and will be welcome by the Republicans heading into next November’s U.S. mid-term elections. However, U.S. voters were very unhappy about consumer price levels during last autumn’s election and voted accordingly (the same was true throughout the DM), and likely will be again next autumn.
